I include a link to the original translation of the whole of the Bodhicaryavatara by Vesna and Alan Wallace at the bottom of my version that you will see on the menu of my HOME page. It utilises my Preceptor Sangharakshita's teaching of Mind Reactive and Creative, that can be found at : http://tiny.cc/kwk2cw This teaching makes the whole of Shantideva's Chapter 5 much more intelligible, I believe.
Seeing that Mindfulness is becoming something of a buzz-word, I have produced today what I hope is a slightly more intelligible and useful version for modern Dharma practitioners and readers of Chapter 5 of Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara.

Friends, I received a couple of virtually immediate responses to this new website of mine. One was appreciative, from India, and the other, nearer where I'm currently based in Birmingham, UK, offered me some sage advice: that if I was to keep people visiting this website, then I'd need to update it quite frequently. So, I'm going to really try to take this to heart, I am not going to make any specific promises about how often I'll update, but it will be .... well, often enough! This morning I've been reflecting on just how people in today's world-wide-net communicate, and just where, as a committed Buddhist and member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, my duty lies: “How shall we learn to know ourselves? By reflection? Never; but only through action. Strive to do thy duty; then thou shall know what in thee lies.” (Goethe) My first duty is to strive for Enlightenment and to assist all sentient beings to attain it. There are of course many, many other vows or duties, or rather formulations of that basic Buddhist duty just mentioned that encompasses them all. For those who would like to follow this up, what better place to start than Wikipaedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhisattva_vows In order to make this site more interactive - since communication is of the essence - I'm going to have to discover how to arrange things here so that my readers can respond. In the meantime - watch this space! All good wishes to you all, to those enjoying happiness, and to those in distress, Ashvajit |
